Hello Parents and Families!
My name is Melissa Laurita Kohl and I am the new ELO (Expanded Learning Opportunities) after school program coordinator. I am an herbalist, artist, and community organizer with a passion for helping people. My goal is to engage, entertain, and inspire your children in a fun and relaxed environment.
Next session plans are well under way. You could expect to see a full schedule of offerings with this week’s Friday Notes. As a sneak peak, I will let you know about a couple of new and exciting offerings by professionals in the community.
The first is Computer Programming with Jerri Kohl. He is a software developer who taught himself programming at the age of 10. He is funny and dynamic, with a knack for making things interesting, so this should be both educational and a hoot.
The second is Gardening with Peacham’s Willow Brook Farm. While deep winter sets in, we will experience the joy of soil and the magic of seed starting. We will be growing greens, radishes, and peas for Peacham Elementary School’s soon to be salad bar. We are also interested in growing culinary and perennial herbs like rosemary and mint, so if you have a plant or cutting that your would like to donate to the cause, please let me know.
This program is designed for you and your children, so if there is any way we could improve your experience, please let me know. And remember, parents and families are always welcome to participate, either by sitting in and doing activities with your child or teaching or co-teaching an activity.
We are also looking for volunteers and paid teachers. If you are interested in learning more, please let me know. The easiest way to reach me is in person or at email@example.com.
I am very excited to join the program!
