On Monday, Sept. 22, Peacham Elementary students will begin a six-week program of targeted instruction to address their needs and strengths as measured by our new district-wide online STAR Reading and Math assessment tool. Groups with similar needs or interests will meet for about 30 minutes each day to add another supportive layer to classroom instruction. PES staff leading these groups have been matched using their own strengths to provide an extra boost in various sized groups, mixing students across grade levels and between classrooms. All of our teaching staff, including our daily Specials teachers, will provide a variety of learning experiences.
Our goal is to build confidence with essential Common Core-based skills and measure student progress with the online STAR assessments every two weeks. Students will be working towards their own individual personal best. Every six weeks our groups will be modified to reflect student needs, academic growth, and interests.
Students will receive their LEAP assignments in homerooms on Monday morning. While it may not be practical for our very youngest, we will plan to share some assessment data with students in grades 3-6 to help them be even more pro-active in their learning teams.
LEAP is our way of creating a personal learning plan for each of our students. We will look to you all for feedback as we proceed. Contact your child’s teacher or me, Judy Ross, with questions or input at any time.
