Dear Peacham friends and families,
We’re starting to hit our stride. Schedules and responsibilities have been tested and tweaked, and students are mastering their new classroom and school-wide expectations. Our unofficial, motto this year is: EMPOWER, not enable. We hope our students have more and more opportunities to take charge of their learning, including setting goals and charting their own progress. One goal for many students will be to lead their Parent-Teacher-Student conferences beginning this fall.
Have you heard about our “Peacham PRIDE?” Each Peacham student is Positive, Responsible, Is Caring, Does their best, and keeps Everybody safe. As a school we will continue to develop our behavior and academic expectations based on this pledge. Watch for the “high 5s” celebrating our successes.
PES staff are now all actively working with their CCSU peers to develop new curriculum and instructional expectations for all content areas to address the needs of the Common Core State Standards and the Next Generation Science Standards. Folks will continue to meet throughout the year to review units and results of common student assessments. By the end of this year we should have a much clearer and more meaningful curriculum plan with built-in supports through ongoing grade-level peer conversations. This is a true benefit to our small school. We will continue to share details of the new Common Core assessment plans as they develop.
In the meantime, all K-6 students are experiencing individually adaptive, online assessments for Math, Reading, and Early Literacy Skills using the STAR Assessment system from Renaissance Learning. Results are immediately used to help teachers plan for individualized and group instruction. See their site for more details.
