Principal’s Corner | Nov. 7

Dear Peacham friends and families,

Snow on a few cars coming into the parking lot this morning reminded us of the inevitable weather to come. Have you had your flu shot? Do you have your snow tires on? Is the wood in? Have you stocked up on good books, cocoa, and a back-up generator? At PES we have refined our weather alert protocols to include the OneCall system for school closing announcements. If you have opted in to OneCall you will receive a recorded message from Dr. Forest after he makes the decision about district closings and/or delays. You can also check our school website or the WCAX website for updates. PES will no longer use the Winter Phone Calling Tree.

Grades will close for our first trimester marking period on Nov. 14th. Report cards will go home with students by Friday, Nov. 21. As always, if you have questions or concerns, you are encouraged to connect with your child’s teacher first to gather information and help plan next steps to support our learners. You are a vital partner in your child’s education.

Staff members are also currently being observed and evaluated using the CCSU rubrics to measure best instructional practice. At PES we consider this a continuation and formalization of the ongoing conversations we have regarding our practice that take place throughout our days. It is a pleasure to work with my PES colleagues and connect our work with the larger CCSU learning community. We can honestly say we are a student-centered team working together to fulfill our mission.

In that light, here is the link to my own performance survey. Your feedback is invaluable. Please access this survey and respond before Friday, Nov. 21, 2014. Results will be shared at the December School Board meeting.

Cheers to all,
Judy Ross
