Dear Peacham families and friends,

Next month’s Board Meeting is scheduled afterschool at 3:30pm on Monday, Feb. 9th. The Board will be prepared to share their proposed 2015-2016 budget and will invite public discussion before the annual school district meeting in March. It is crucial for the Board to hear parents’ thoughts on our plans for next year, particularly regarding expanding our PK program and our Music Program. By attending this meeting you can help the Board prepare for Town Meeting and ensure that we continue to grow as a school of excellence. Please attend. ELO might be a good place for your child that afternoon. Please plan ahead with Melissa.

In that same vein, today I am attending a session of the VT House and Senate Education Committee hearings on the future of schools like Peacham Elementary. I hope to provide at least written testimony on how a small school can, and does, provide an excellent level of individualized instruction with a wide variety of challenging and engaging program opportunities to prepare our students for their education after Grade 6. A copy of my statement is included in your folder today.

Today is a very busy day for a couple other reasons. We’ve practiced 2 safety drills (great job, everyone!), we expect a reporter from Channel 7 news to visit to learn about our skating rink, and Rose Sheehan will accompany Jacob Churchill and Destiny Noyes to Montpelier to accept our VT Agency of Agriculture Farm-to-School grant award. Phew!

Did you hear the news? Zeb Kane is our GeoBee champ for the 2nd year in a row! Kudos to JD, Hunter, Logan, Charlie, Laurel, Hannah, Joe, Christian, & Jacob for trying their best.
We are indeed a school of excellence.

Cheers to all,

Judy Ross
